You win some, you lose some…

…and sometimes you fall flat on your face. Like this!

Last night I was out in Intaki scouting around in my (cloaked) Purifier. At some point Bataav decided to take his Myrm out and sit about 200km above Astral 5-5. We were watching for a couple of neutrals flying a Typhoon and a Scorp.

While up there, Strider Hiryu from KWFL landed on the station in a Hurricane on the side opposite the undock and sat there. After a while the Typhoon and the Scorp landed on the undock. No real activity for a bit until Strider docked up and then immediately undocked into the other two but we couldn’t tell what was going on so I warped down to 100km to get a better view.

Strider was bumping the Scorp and the two neuts eventually just warped off, leaving Bataav alone above the station, still at 200km or so.

I knew, I knew, at this point I should have returned to FedMart to nab my Harb, but, no, I ignored my gut and stayed put in the Purifier. This, most definitely, was my first mistake. Must learn to trust my instincts…

Bataav signalled me on comms: “Ok I’m next then,” and not a moment later, Strider pounced. I turned around to warp back up to him, but…

Mistake number two. Neither of us was watching Local. By the time I got back up there, Freshman2, also of KWFL, had warped in on Bataav in a Rapier.

My next mistake was uncloaking and trying to engage. Of course a single stealthbomber against these two ships would not have made a dent. But Bataav was going down and it was one of those acts of desperation to try to prevent the inevitable.

The Rapier caught me instantly and I blew up in a tiny little puff of light. One second later, Bataav went down too. The battle report shows the whole story. We made an attempt to regroup and pursue the KWFL pilots but they escaped.

Strider and Freshman2 showed up in Local again tonight. Bataav and I set up for a rematch. Anais, Jon, Titania, and Jezebel fleeted up with us too.

Strider retreated to the Customs office at P5 and we pursued, knowing that Freshman would warp in after. Only Jon and Titania got out. Why?

KWFL dropped a remote-rep fit Archon and a Panther on us plus three more unknown ships in system, and wiped us out.

They waited for us, baited us, and we walked right into it.

Despite this truly awful performance…after returning to station in my pod feeling like a dog with its tail tucked between its legs…Mammal greeted me in the corp lounge and announced he was promoting me to Pasha of Aditipala!

At first I didn’t think I deserved it. A commander who gets her entire fleet annihilated? Hmm. But Mammal spoke privately with me after and convinced me it’s about more than just the number of kills (or losses) in my record. He said I’ve demonstrated my loyalty to the corporation and a willingness to contribute, and with Fugu’s departure he’d been looking for someone to replace him. He wants me to continue FCing and organizing patrols when I can with the other Pashas. That made me feel a great deal better and in the end I was happy to accept. Now I’m actually quite excited. Bataav can’t pull rank on me anymore either! Not that he ever actually did, but we had a chuckle over it all the same. He took me out for supper tonight so we could celebrate.
