Updates
Jargon is important!
In past
Solitary Pilot entries and ficlets, Bataav's security team (the unit that has been guarding Sakaane's estate on Intaki Prime, one of whom is later assigned to her as a bodyguard) has been referred to as "mercenaries".
As I've become more familiar with DUST 514, I've seen that it refers to player characters as mercenaries too.
This could be confusing, then, because Bataav's men are baseliners, not DUST mercs.
So, to better distinguish them, I've gone through the ficlets and log entries starting from March of YC114 and changed all the references I could find from "mercenary" to "commando". Same idea, but better to be clear. FYI. :)
Tutorials
The tutorials are restored! These are all public pages.
Admittedly, they are a bit out of date. Photoshop CS2 was...ages ago. But I know a few people have always enjoyed referring to them. The next time I'm working on a piece of art I'll probably look at updating and/or expanding what's there.
With those pages done, the entirety of
Incyanity's content (what I planned to retain) has been restored, other than historical journal comments. I'm pretty sure I haven't missed any actual pages, but if you find something that is still broken, please let me know!
My last task is to clean up the menu. :)
User Pages
Just a quick update tonight: the user pages have been restored and should be functional once more.
These pages include
member sign up,
change password and
lost password.
Buttons and banners for linking to
Incyanity are also found on the user
general page, which can be accessed via the gear icon on the
index.
Comment functionality on the updates blog and
Book of Days has also been restored, though historical comments on my journal are still unavailable.
This update means I'm almost done! The remaining pages to do are the Tutorials and then cleaning up the menu so the proper privacy icons and links are displayed.
Oh, the nostalgia!
The entirety of
Heart of the Empire has been restored. The comment script in that section works too!
As in the past, most of HOTE's content requires login, though I have made the
Music public. There are links to YouTube videos of all but one of the playlist tracks (which for some reason I can't find anywhere, boo).
The links in the site's main menu don't yet have privacy icons associated with them. I will be working on the menu last; the priority for now is to get content reposted.
It was a trip down memory lane while working on the HOTE pages! Kind of like meeting an old friend again. Right from art I did when I was fifteen years old and the story was in its infancy, all the way to the character profiles, comments posted by fans, and chapter snippets that caught my eye while I was cleaning up code. ♥
Photostreams and RSS Feeds
The
Photostreams page has been restored. All of the videos should automatically display at the best quality available. The comment script on that page works too!
I've also set up
RSS feeds. The first feed, for
Heart of the Empire, has been populated with the existing chapter teasers. The posts look sorely out of date because I used the original dates the teasers were added to my journal, for consistency. The feed will get updated with new posts once I have more to stick in it. :)
If you prefer to use a service like FeedBurner, there are corresponding links for each feed as well.
I'm still debating whether or not to introduce an RSS feed for
Book of Days. I might wait to see how much I get back into regular journalling first. :)
Subscribe away!
Resurrection
Wow! It's been over a year since I made a proper update to
Incyanity.
While I've been away, I have kept the site in my thoughts. I've been hard at work in real life, plus also working a lot on
Solitary Pilot. My muse for
Heart of the Empire has also been on a long, long vacation, but lately I started to have ideas on that story again, so it felt right to have another look at my website.
The menu above has been streamlined (though it isn't finished yet), and also redone as CSS rather than Javascript. There's a lot of old content I won't be reposting due to its age. Plus, having only those things on the site which I'm most likely to have time/interest for will keep my attention focused and ideally mean more new content more often!
I'll also be introducing some RSS feeds soon, as I imagine after all this time any visitors I used to have are long since gone. Time to get to a new audience!
While I work on getting the site back in shape, a bunch of pages will appear broken (bad layout, weird text formatting, etc) or come up as 404. There's a lot of old code and content that needs to be cleaned out! Some features (like the comment script) probably won't work at all. Keep checking back!
