What’s In A Name?

I’ve had this website in one form or another, and at one URL or another, since 1999. Of course, its content has changed drastically over the years. Much of what I’ve posted here since then has been retired, archived, lost, or even deliberately deleted. The Wayback Machine could probably provide a pretty amusing trip down memory lane if I dredged up the old web addresses I used to occupy.

I can still remember the moment I decided to name this site Incyanity. It’s pretty close to twenty years back: I was posting in a thread on a phpBB forum moderated by some people I knew, casting about looking for a new name for my site for whatever reason. People in the thread knew me pretty well, including my tastes, interests, and my favorite color, and then there it was: a friend suggested Incyanity, and I knew that was what I wanted to change to. So I did.

Yarniversary! Tomorrow, June 14, 2020, marks one full year since I opened my yarn shop. Holy moly! The time has gone really quickly.

I remember how nervous I was in the leadup to the opening. Would anybody even like the yarn? Could I really do this business thing? It wasn’t the first time I’d gone into business for myself, but it was the first time where the business centered around a physical product (whereas previously, I hired out as an editor on a freelance basis). When I first started planning for the shop in May of 2018 I had no idea how much prep and lead time it would actually take to get everything ready. It was a lot of work! So by the time I was finally ready, I wondered a lot if all the work would pay off.

I’m An Introvert

I'm an Introvert

When you find out your normal daily lifestyle is called 'quarantine'.I’m a pretty extreme introvert. I don’t like being with more than two other people at one time, and even that is a very draining experience. If given a choice, in most cases I’d rather curl up on the sofa as a contented homebody than go out. When I do go out, my outings are still very introverted: I’d rather go alone to the mall (let me shop at my own pace and only for what I planned to shop for), solo my photography outings (much easier to take 100 shots of this particular flower without worrying that I’m boring someone to tears), and so on. Even going to a movie alone is just fine with me. But mostly, I stay home. So, all this social distancing stuff hasn’t really had much impact on my day-to-day. Except
